ABOUT
Resound Architecture + Design is a full-service architecture and design firm based on Seattle’s Eastside in Washington. We focus on creating sustainable, resilient design for residential and commercial projects that balances functionality with a touch of whimsy.
We take seriously the role our buildings play in stewarding our shared environment, but our designs are relaxed, timeless, and playful.
Project Types
We love working on a wide variety of project and are particularly passionate about adapting spaces to better support the people and communities who use them. Whether your project is a remodel, addition, ADUs, new construction, cooperative or multifamily, or a small commercial project, we have the experience to guide you through every step of the process.
Our work also extends beyond the building envelope – we enjoy helping clients creating custom furniture, interior designs, or hardscape plans – ensuring each project feels thoughtful and cohesive.
Spatial Experience
We craft spaces that function well and feel good to live in. Our goal is to support daily routines while inserting moments of delight and connection to community, nature, and family.
Our design process includes thoughtful consideration of the site context, whether it’s natural elements like light, wind, trees, and topography, or urban elements like neighboring structures or privacy considerations. This understanding allows us to craft spaces that feel rooted to their place, whether it’s a carefully framed view, catching the spring breeze, or bringing in daylight mid-winter.
Sustainable + Technical
We are passionate about the technical details that make buildings perform well, endure gracefully, and leave a light footprint on our environment.
Sustainability is a loose term with different meanings. For us, sustainable design includes evaluating site selection, building orientation, resiliency, passive lighting, passive cooling and heating strategies, energy efficiency, low-carbon material selection, indoor air quality considerations, and client education.
Resilient design focuses on structural and material choices to ensure a structure has a higher chance of surviving natural disasters and the weathering of time. Sustainable and resilient design is tailored to each of our projects depending on the scope.
Client Experience
We treat each client as a partner in developing the customized design that will transform your project. From feasibility studies and initial concepts through final construction documents and construction administration, our team works with you to fine-tune the design to meet your needs and budget.
This all starts with a conversation: we spend time listening to your goals, budget considerations, and design wishes. As the design takes shape, our collaboration extends to the builders and consultants involved. The best ideas often come from open communication across disciplines, and we want to facilitate those discussions early and often to streamline the design process. We want this experience to be transparent, collaborative, and enjoyable!

TEAM

Margaret Saunders, AIA
Margaret is a registered architect in Washington and Texas with 10 years of experience in managing residential, commercial, and landscape projects.
Her background includes other diverse roles en route to architecture, first getting a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University to work in product design for five years, a master’s degree in architecture at The University of Texas at Austin, and five years as a stay-at-home parent and volunteer. Now her focus is in creating livable, healthy, joyful spaces that meet the needs of each client.
She enjoys the many roles an architect inhabits during a project – researcher, collaborator, designer, and technical consultant – and is passionate about interweaving client goals with sound design and building performance at every scale.
Outside of the office, Margaret can be found exploring the mountains of the PNW with her family. She is certain that if she drags brings them on enough climbing, hiking, camping adventures, they will love the outdoors as much as she does.
